Show Site Sales and Maintenance Assistant

FULL-TIME

£22,160 - 35,000 PA + bonus scheme

Based in Farnham, Surrey, our family run retail business requires experienced, motivated Full-time Sales & Maintenance Assistants to work within a small, enthusiastic, and proactive team.

 

This role is mixture of dealing with customers’ requirements and site maintenance work. Due to the nature of the showsite, much of the role is based outside, walking around our 3-acre site, talking to customers, and showing them the vast range of garden buildings.

 

Role and Responsibilities

 

  • Greeting customers

  • Serving customers and dealing with enquiries in person and over the telephone

  • Developing and maintaining product knowledge concerning all our garden building ranges and services

  • Building rapport with customers by providing accurate guidance

  • Offering technical advice

  • Processing cash & card payments

  • Producing accurate and detailed quotes

  • Writing up orders

  • Promoting products based on the Company’s directives

  • Unpacking and sorting deliveries, including deliveries of stone and correct placement for display

  • Keeping the sales office and showsite clean & safe

  • Carrying out Health & Safety checks and tasks

  • Maintenance of the showsite

  • Inspecting equipment & buildings

  • Completing small repairs

  • Performing grounds maintenance

  • Carrying of furniture & stone items to customer cars

  • Dealing with telephone enquires

  • Contacting potential customers via telephone who have already had a quote with the company, to see if they are still interested

  • Other ad-hoc tasks

Qualifications and Education Requirements

A minimum of 4 GCSEs, with English and Math’s at grades 9 to 4 (Grade C or above), or equivalent

Preferred Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • 2 years + of retail experience (or equivalent)

  • Customer service skills

  • Interpersonal skills

  • High energy, friendly personality

  • Capable of interpreting customers’ needs and showing them suitable products

  • Basic math skills

  • Neat handwriting with the ability to write quickly

  • Ability to conduct effective sales

  • Physical strength to lift heavy objects

  • Ability to work in stressful situations

  • Ability to work well with a team

  • Willingness to work overtime when required

  • Attention to detail

  • Ability to plan and prioritise tasks

 

Additional Notes

WORKING PATTERN:

44 hours per week during normal opening-hour periods, and 40 hours per week during winter months (Nov – Feb).

 

Working pattern is 5 days a week, Thursday to Monday. Weekends & Bank Holidays will be worked except for the following bank holidays: Easter Sunday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day & New Year’s Day.

Show Site Maintenance Assistant

FULL-TIME OR PART -TIME

£9.50 Per Hour

Roles & responsibilities

The purpose of this role is to keep our large showsite safe and in good condition. To do this, the Maintenance Assistant will be required to:

  • Rake & sweep the showsite

  • Weeding & general tidying up

  • Clean all display buildings inside and out

  • Prepare and top-up brochures

  • Unload deliveries

  • Arrange the displaying of stone ornaments & garden furniture

  • Keep showmodel signs & stone labels in good condition

  • Carry stone items and furniture to customers cars

  • Carrying out Health & Safety checks and tasks

  • Inspecting equipment & buildings

  • Completing small repairs

  • Opening and closing up of the show buildings

  • Other ad-hoc tasks

Required Experience

The successful candidate will need to have a minimum of 2 years maintenance experience, or other relevant work experience. Comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided by our team.

Career progression

This role has the potential to progress into a sales role for the right candidate.

Pay

Wage is paid at £9.50 per hour, with the equivalent full time salary approx.  £21,000

Working hours

Full time: Employees will be expected to work 44 hours per week during normal opening-hour periods, and 40 hours per week during winter months (Nov – Feb).

Working pattern is 5 days a week, Thursday – Monday

Weekends & Bank Holidays will be worked except Easter Sunday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day & New Year’s Day. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are our days off each week

Holiday entitlement is 28 paid holiday days per year

Part time: Flexible hours can be discussed if a candidate would prefer. A minimum of 2 days a week would be required - paid at £9.50 per hour.
